What an Area 1 FFA Advisor Can Expect and is Responsible For Before, During and After Area Leadership Conference:
A way to think of Area Leadership Conference is finishing up the chapter of a good book and anticipating as you begin the next one. This is a time for your students to meet new friends, see old ones, learn something new to take back to their respective chapters to benefit the future of your program. The exact same is true for you.
1) Registration for ALC 2025 came in an email and is closed. For any registration questions, please contact Mr. Been ~ AST Springlake-Earth.
2) Students may not attend the conference without an advisor. If a student’s advisor is unable to stay, that advisor must designate another advisor to be responsible for their students for the duration. The appropriate paperwork must be filled out to notify the executive committee and dorm supervisors at registration. ALC is not a babysitting service.
3) All advisors should expect to pay the conference fee. This includes: 2 t-shirts, meals in CC cafeteria (even if you do not eat there), snacks, water, banquet meal, professional development certificate for teacher workshops & meetings
4) If you are bringing any special guests to the banquet, the cost is $20 per plate. Please turn in that count when you register.
5) Teachers are responsible for their students and the behavior of those students. Teachers should remain on campus during the daytime, as well as the duration of both dances and other evening activities. Please make sure your students get to their respective dorms and to bed. Please assist with keeping students of the dorms during the events, as the participation of your students is imperative for ALC to function and run smoothly.
6) Area 1 will always maintain the "No late arrival, no early departure" policy. If students cannot arrive by the appropriate times and stay until the closing session, they should remain home. Sorry. Certainly common sense should be utilized in times of illness, emergency or death.
7) All teachers are assigned to committees to assist with the running and management of ALC. These duties supersede any and all workshops or other activities during that time. See what you signed up for and details here! If your name is not on this list, it means you did not register. Thanks in advance for doing your part!
8) Non-negotiable rules and health releases must be presented upon registration and signed by the student, advisor, and parent before the student may attend. Those came from Mr. Been.
9) A complete rooming list of students and advisors must be available for all the conference supervisors. In case of emergency, the Area Secretary will have all health releases on file. We do ask that as many teachers as we have room for stay in the dorms and be the supervisor for that dorm. That DOES NOT MEAN that someone else is accountable and responsible for your students. (Knorpp - 4 to 6 teachers, Vaughn - 4 teachers on each floor, Phelan - 2 to 4 teachers, Southwest - 2 teachers, Regents - 4 teachers) Be sure to thank those teachers that are willing to serve as dorm supervisors.
10) Clothing should always adhere to Dress for Conference. Please read and share with your students. Your behavior is expected to be professional as well.
11) Here is a suggested packing list for you and your students.
12) Area I provides professional development hours for you to take back to your district for your time spent at this conference. These hours can come from: serving on the various working committees, attending and/or facilitating professional workshops and training during the conference, managing students throughout the time we are in Clarendon, attending the teacher's meeting and/or your district meeting. GT credit is also provided. Certificates will only be dispersed to teachers that register, pay, show up, participate and are part of ALC.
13) Bring your lawn chair for the dances and Agtastic!!. Supervision at these events is a requirement for you -- certainly you can sit and visit, but do so in a visible and accessible area. Students should not be anywhere else except in the appropriate areas on campus.
14) Please show appreciate by having your students (and you) who attend ALC hand write a thank you note to these folks who make our event possible.
15) In order to conduct some area business for our teachers, we hold an annual teacher's meeting. Being updated: Agenda for teacher's meeting
16) Some advisors need to bring their students on Monday afternoon to assist with ALC preparation and officer items. This group should be limited. Please fill in this form for Early arrival (Monday) to provide a count for our meals, dorms and other planning. Teachers that are not helping with conference preparation should please plan to feed your students before you arrive. Daily Schedule
17) An important event for ALC every year is our Community Service Project. This year, we ask that you bring any denim product, 90% cotton or greater to registration and place it in the boxes labeled at check-in.
